Maui

Maui’s vast and beautiful landscape is best explored by car, making it the most practical mode of transportation for visitors. With a well-developed network of roads, navigating the island is relatively easy. Although there are bus services and hotel shuttles available, they may not be the most reliable options for exploring the island. To rent a car, simply head to Kahului Airport (OGG), Maui’s main flight terminal located on the northern coast. Additionally, there are two other airports on the island: Kapalua Airport (JHM) in West Maui and Hana Airport (HNM) in East Maui, which are primarily used for inter-island transfers. Kahului Airport services several major airlines, including United, Alaska, and Delta, while ride-sharing services like Lyft and Uber, as well as taxis, are also available for those who prefer not to rent a car.

Car

Exploring the breathtaking beauty of Maui beyond the confines of your hotel and the beach is an absolute must. And, renting a car is the perfect way to make that happen. If you’re under 25, fret not, as you can still rent a car in Maui by paying a nominal young driver fee. However, since Hawaii follows a no-fault policy, it’s advisable to opt for collision insurance, unless your personal policy covers you. It’s worth noting that drivers from bustling cities may need to adjust their driving style, as honking is a rare occurrence in Hawaii, reserved only for emergencies. You’ll find an array of rental agencies at the Kahului and Kapalua airports, ready to cater to your needs.

Bus

Maui boasts an efficient public transportation system with 13 bus routes available to the public. Commencing in Kahului, the Nos. 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 10, 20, 35, 39, and 40 traverse all directions in the surrounding regions. These routes predominantly run north, south, and east, with the western areas receiving minimal service. To reach points of interest in the west, such as Hana, a car is necessary. A single one-way ride is priced at $2, while day passes can be purchased for $4. The buses operate seven days a week, with the earliest service commencing at 5:30 a.m. and the latest service concluding at 11 p.m., depending on the route.

Taxi

Although taxis are more commonly found at the airport, your hotel can easily arrange for one to transport you to your desired destination, be it a restaurant, attraction or shopping area. However, it is advisable to avoid utilizing cabs for long-distance travel as the standard rate on the island is $3 per mile, which can add up rapidly. Ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft are also available in Maui, providing additional options for transportation.

Shuttle

Numerous hotels and resorts, particularly those situated in the bustling tourist hotspots of Wailea and West Maui, extend a gracious gesture of complimentary shuttle services to and from the airport and nearby attractions and shopping areas. If you prefer not to venture around Maui on your own, this presents a cost-effective mode of transportation. It is advisable to inquire about the shuttle service provided by your hotel during the booking process.

Ferry

Lahaina Harbor is the hub for inter-island ferry services, providing seamless access to Manele Small Boat Harbor on the neighboring island of Lanai. Expeditions Lanai offers multiple daily departures from Lahaina, starting as early as 6:45 a.m. and concluding with the last return boat at 5:30 p.m. Adult fares for round-trip journeys are priced at $60, while children can avail of discounted fares at $40. One-way trips are also available at $30 and $20 for adults and children, respectively. Trust us to provide you with a smooth and efficient inter-island travel experience.
